Aftercare guide
If you chose second skin:Leave the Saniderm (second skin) on for 1-5 days- DO NOT leave on for longer. Gently remove in the shower allowing corners to gently peel up for a pain free removal.
Use an unscented and antibacterial soap to wash your tattoo. Begin to apply chosen unscented lotion to your tattoo about 2-3 times a day.
If you chose cling wrap:
Leave wrapping on for at least an hour. Its primary role is to protect the skin for the duration of leaving the shop to its first wash.
Gently remove wrapping from tattooed area and wash gently with unscented antibacterial soap. Pat dry with paper towel NOT a fabric towel. Let it air dry past this and apply a very thin layer of unscented lotion- less is more.
Repeat this routine for the first 2-3 days of your healing washing your new tattoo only about 2-3 times a day. Try to avoid over washing and over moisturizing the area. Remember tattoos are open wounds treat it with care!
Always remember: It is very normal to feel drained, tired or even a bit sick after your session - especially if it is a long sit (tattoo flu) as your body is experiencing a small dose of shock while getting tattooed. I always recommend to fit some rest and relaxation in after your appointment.
There is no set timeline to heal a tattoo. Every body is different, and tattoos can heal longer or quicker depending on the area. Always feel free to contact me on healing advice or any questions you have. And, Remember to always listen to your body!
I ensure my tattooing station and environment is sterile. However, there is always risk of infection based on outside factors- tattoos are open wounds after all. If you believe your tattoo is infected or you are experiencing an allergic reaction please seek medical advice.
Avoid: Petroleum based aftercare lotions in your healing as they have the potential to clog pores. This can lead to bumps on your tattoo as well as other healing complications.
DO NOT rewrap or bandage your healing tattoo. You will risk trapping bacteria and raise your risk of infection.
No swimming or submerging your tattoo during the healing period of 2-3 weeks. This includes: pools, beaches or any body of water, saunas, and baths.
Direct sunlight the first 2-3 days of your healing. It will hurt and can cause irritation.
Do not apply sunscreen to your healing tattoo.
Avoid scratching and itching your new tattoo. You will eventually hit the “itchy” phase of healing. Resist the urge! You can gently pat the surrounding area to help if you need.
Try to not over wash the tattoo during the healing period as well as over moisturize. This will impede the healing process and cause a longer period of healing, and can lead to complications.
Avoid shaving the area until your tattoo is COMPLETELY healed.
It is normal if: Your tattoo fades. Sometimes the ink can fall out or sections are not as bright. This is especially normal for aging tattoos! Getting a touch up is a normal part of tattoo maintenance.
If you use Saniderm there will be a build up of fluids- or an “ink sac” this is totally normal!
If you are experiencing soreness in the area take the recommended dose of your choice of inflammation reducer such as Ibuprofen.
It is normal for the tattoo to appear as flaky during the healing period especially in areas of shading and heavy blacks. Just make sure to keep it moisturized!
Always: Wash your hands before cleaning or touching your healing tattoo.
Pat your tattoo dry with clean paper towel.
Use antibacterial soap and unscented lotion.
Reach out and ask questions!
Keep fresh tattoo clean.
Shower like normal.
